FLOWERGIRL

FLOWERGIRL

At a wedding, a flowergirl scatters petals before a bride to represent the bride’s movement from childhood to adulthood, as well as symbolizing her wishes for fertility. My version of Flowergirl does not scatter petals, nor does she lead any path — she is ever-growing and contains both childhood and adulthood within herself, undefined by procreation. A woman’s growth is not in marriage or motherhood; it is within herself. Her bra-breasts represent the performance of femininity and the criteria by which we often judge development and womanhood. Flowergirl reminds us that we exist as we are, and that our growth is defined only by our own personal experience.

Plants, as far as I know, are still bending toward the light.
